Wokefield Park - 28th March 2002

The first outing of the season was greeted by exceptionally good weather, with not a cloud in the sky all day. One of Alan Harlow's guests, Rob Gumbrell, took full advantage of the good conditions to shoot a gross 72 to take the morning honours. Much to his surprise, Sean Jeanes' 35 points were enough to win in the afternoon; perhaps we had all over indulged in the fantastic food on offer at lunchtime! The day was rounded off with an excellent buffet-style meal.

Slinfold Park - 25th April 2002

Yet again we came up trumps in the weather stakes, with blue skies and hot sun almost all day. The scoring was remarkably good considering the bouncy fairways and tricky greens. John Mead took the Spring Cup honours over the morning round, with a score of 39 points. This was partially eclipsed by Sean Jeanes' excellent haul of 42 points in the afternoon. An superb 'homemade' dinner was enjoyed by all (especially the rhubarb and apple crumble dessert!).

Royal Winchester- 29th May 2002

The outing to Royal Winchester this year brought a remarkable turn of events - 2 hole's in 1! Not helped by the rather wet and wild weather, this incredible feat was achieved by both John Mead (at the 11th) and Alan Harlow (at the nearest the pin 17th) during the morning round. This (understandably) rather overshadowed the rest of the days proceedings, but for the record Andy Cunningham just piped Chris Rogers for the trophy in the afternoon on countback. As usual at this venue, both the lunch and evening meals were superb.

Salisbury & South Wilts - 20th June 2002

This was our first visit to Salisbury & South Wilts, but probably won't be our last! The whole day was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody who attended. The superb weather was matched by the condition of the course (and the spectacular views of Salisbury Cathedral). Matt Jennings scooped the main prize with his morning round of 37 points whilst Andy Cunningham almost doubled his morning score in the afternoon round to win with 40 points.

The Army - 25th July 2002

This years' outing to the ever-popular Army coincided with the Farnborough airshow just over the fence, so we were treated to some spectacular flying while we played! We were competing for the Club Championship (36 holes, scratch stableford) and the Peter Pearson Trophy (36 holes, net stableford, 20+ handicaps). The weather was excellent (again), and a good turnout ensured that the day was enjoyed by all. Much to his surprise, Peter Nicholas ran out the winner in the Club Championship after he gained 54 stableford points. Perhaps even more surprising was the win by last year's captain, Terry Berridge, in the Peter Pearson Trophy. His consistent scoring over the day brought 68 stableford points. Well done to you both.

The trophy was won in the afternoon by a remarkable score of 43 points by Tony Sladen (handicap committee take note!).

Dunwood Manor - 24th October 2002

For our final outing of the year we decided to do things a little bit differently. The trophy was awarded to the golfer with the best individual round stableford score, morning or afternoon. Although (amazingly) the rain held off all day, the frozen conditions certainly didn't make scoring easy in the morning round, so it wasn't surprising that both the winning and second best rounds were played during the afternoon. Matt Jennings dramatically improved on his morning round to score 39 points, only to be pipped by Chris Rogers, whose 41 points were enough to win the trophy. The Order of Merit title was secured by Finbar O'Keeffe, whose two rounds of 35 and 33 points proved enough to comfortably see off the competition.
