Wokefield Park - 26th March 2003

Rather disappointingly, only 8 golfers were at Wokefield Park for our opening event of the year. If you didn't come, you really missed out! The weather was perfect, the course was in great condition, and the food was as good as ever at this venue. As for the golf played - Richard Edmondson had a good day, with his 35 points enough to win in the morning. He then teamed up with Chris Rogers and Barry English to scoop the team prize in the afternoon.

The Hampshire- 24th April 2003

A much better turnout at The Hampshire saw 16 golfers compete for the first trophy and Order Of Merit points of the season. Our new captain showed the way, as Bill Peach opened up in style by winning the Spring Cup.

Stoneham - 29th May 2003

A hot summers day greeted us at Stoneham this year, though the rough was found to be as high as the temperatures! The course was playing tough, even though it was in great condition. In fact, only 1 round better par all day - Finbar O'Keeffe's afternoon round of 39 points. The trophy was played for over the morning round, where Neil Durant triumphed, beating Chris Rogers only on countback All in all, everybody agreed that it had been a fantastic day.

The Army - 26th June 2003

As usual at the Army we were treated with glorious weather all day - it was a shame that only 13 golfers managed to come. Judging by the scores the course was certainly not playing easy - just like last month only 1 score bettered par all day. Bill Peach's 37 points in the afternoon was enough to win him the trophy. The morning round ended in a tie between Alan Harlow and Alwyn Huggett on 35 points, with Alan winning on countback. It should be noted that Finbar O'Keeffe scooped himself two lots of 9 points for the Order Of Merit - can anybody stop him retaining the title?

Donnington Valley - 17th July 2003

Our first ever visit to this venue got off to a bad start with rain (in July!) and traffic chaos (for those that 'braved' the M4). This still failed to dampen the spirits, and Matt Jennings score of 39 points in the morning would have won him the trophy had the decision not been made to switch the trophy to the afternoon because of some late arrivals (sorry Matt!). In the afternoon Barry English won the day with a score of 37 points. The trial 'yellow ball' competition was won by the Captains team (surprise surprise) by a single point! Everybody agreed that the meal afterwards was especially good.

Salisbury & South Wilts - 7th August 2003

It was very hot at Salisbury this year. The course was in fabulous condition and we all had a great time. Tony Sladen's morning round of 40 stableford points was easily the best score, and won him the Hawley Bowl. Barry English managed 38 points in the afternoon to score himself a victory. It said something that nobody managed to hit the 18th green in the afternoon for nearest the pin - perhaps we were all thinking about the cold beer beckoning....

Royal Winchester - 3rd September 2003

Another fabulous visit to one of our favourite venues. As usual, the course was in fine condition, and we had weather to match. The Club Championship, played over 36 holes of scratch stableford, turned out to be a walk in the park for Alan Harlow, with two rounds of 74 enough to win by 16 points. The Peter Pearson competition for higher handicappers was similarly one-sided with Harry Greenway scoring a mamoth 79 points! Well done to both.

Calcot Park - 2nd October 2003

Our first visit to Calcot Park saw the climax of this years' Order Of Merit. As it turned out, Finbar O'Keeffe easily held off the competition to retain his title from last year. On a rather damp morning his joint second score of 33 points meant that he could not be caught. Richard Edmondson won the morning round with 34 points. A much more pleasant afternoon saw the scoring increase, with Terry Berridge scooping the trophy with 41 points. After a great day (with some excellent food), everybody agreed that we should return to this venue next year.
